This event offers a unique opportunity for anyone composing and recording their own music the opportunity to pitch your tracks and get feedback from the panel on its ‘sync potential’ for Film and TV.

The ‘Sync + Swim’ panel features amongst its speaker line up Peter Bradbury (Director of Music at Sky Television) and freelance music supervisor Michelle De Vries. They have both put forward live and example briefs for projects they are , or have been, working on which attendees to the conference can submit tracks to ahead of the panel. The panel members will then play some of the submitted tracks and appraise them for suitability for the scene/brief they have been pitched to, as well as wider sync use.

Also on the panel are Mark Gordon (Scoredraw Music), Jonathan Tester (Bucks Publishing) and Dave Rowntree (Blur/composer)

Here are the two briefs:

BRIEF 1

Synopsis for Sky drama “Temple”

In a labyrinth of abandoned service tunnels below Temple Underground Station a highly respected surgeon Daniel Milton runs an illegal medical clinic that treats criminals and other desperate patients who cannot or will not seek help from regular medical facilities. The series focuses on secrecy, issues of trust and Daniel's need to fund his research to find a cure for his wife who suffers from a terminal illness.

Music track required for final scene of Temple series 2

The police believe they’ve killed Daniel.  In the final scene we see he is alive.  He’s standing on a dirty gravel area at the side of the Thames with the criminal leader he now owes big time. “You don’t exist, you don’t complain, from here on in all you do is work for me… try and look at it in the positive, your life just went from very complicated, to nice and simple”.  The criminal gives him a moment on his own.  MUSIC STARTS as Daniel stares at the water, we focus in on his face, he’s relieved to be alive but the grim reality of his future also sinks in.  The music continues as they start to walk off and End Credits Roll.   Note: The show sometimes has dark humour in the darkest moments

BRIEF 2

This brief is for a sports documentary series for a well known streaming company

The sports series is about a UK team which is followed during their season of highs and lows.

We need a really great rap song by a British artist. The song needs to be about positivity and things going from dark to light, and winning against the odds.

To set the scene:

The team have been doing very badly in the first episode. Things look pretty bad- however when things really are at their lowest they pull together as a team and finally win- they celebrate and then the scene cuts to the end of the episode

The song needs to be played as background during this match. It needs to be powerful, positive and give the impression that anything is possible.

We have temped in the song “Introvert” by Little Simz. We love this because the instrumentation is gladiatorial at the beginning - it is as though she is entering into the battle of her life. This is what our team are doing. As the song continues it has power and strong emotion.

LITTLE SIMZ - INTROVERT

The track needs to build and become stronger as the track progresses- lyrically It needs to be about winning against the odds, David V Goliath, lyrically it could also be about if you work hard, and come together things will pay off

To submit tracks to these briefs please send links (no attachments) to stream or download your music to info@soundandvisionconvention.co.uk with ‘Sync Brief’ in the subject line.

NB only attendees at the panel will have their music played and considered.
